Edward “Spacious Balls” Coristine, recognized as one of the youngest innovators in technology, has made a swift return to government service after his brief resignation from Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
According to Stephen McGraw, a spokesperson for the Social Security Management (SSA), “Edward Coristine has joined our team this week as a diverse government employee. his focus will be on enhancing the efficiency of our Social Security website and furthering our mission to provide better services to the American public.”
multiple sources within the SSA have informed WIRED that Coristine has been seen working onsite at their headquarters in Woodlawn, Maryland. An SSA employee reported spotting him alongside DOGE engineer Aram Moghaddassi, who previously worked at Neuralink and is currently assigned to the agency. The two were observed together in the cafeteria just days ago; however, it remains unclear when exactly CoristineS official employment commenced. “Coristine appeared somewhat anxious and almost embarrassed,” noted an insider. “Aram was on a call with someone … then said, ‘Yes, I’m with him right now,’ pointing towards Spacious Balls.”
No comments were received from either Coristine or Moghaddassi regarding their new roles.
The Return After Resignation
This reappointment follows confirmation from a White House official earlier this week that 19-year-old Coristine had resigned from his position in government service. A representative from the trump administration verified that he indeed stepped down on Monday but was reinstated by SSA later that same week.
A Brief Stint at GSA
Citing previous reports by WIRED, it was revealed that Coristine became a full-time employee at the General Services Administration (GSA) on May 30th after transitioning from a limited-term role which typically lasts no longer than 130 days. As of Tuesday afternoon, records indicated that his Google Workspace account with GSA had been deactivated and he no longer appeared on any lists of DOGE personnel maintained by senior officials within federal payroll systems.
Diverse Experience Across Agencies
Coristine is among several DOGE engineers who have contributed across various federal agencies including the Office of Personnel Management and departments such as Health and Human Services and Homeland Security. Interestingly enough,he is not widely recognized for having prior experience specifically with SSA.
A Unique Background in Tech Innovation
Sahil Lavingia, another former member of DOGE who was first identified by WIRED during his time at Veterans Affairs stated: “It felt like there wasn’t much connection beyond Elon being present in Washington.” Reflecting on an all-DOGE meeting held with Musk last March Lavingia remarked: “The only person representing White House interests there was Katie Miller,” who subsequently left her position alongside Musk to work directly for him.
An Unusual Situation?
Richard Pierce, law professor at George Washington University commented on this situation saying it seems unusual yet appears typical for this administration not to be aware about rehiring someone who had recently departed.
