Supergirl #5 – Written by Sophie Campbell; Illustrated by Paulina Ganucheau and Rosi Kampe; Colored by Kendall Goode and Marissa Louise

Rating: 9.5/10

Reviewer: This comic series continues to be a delightful homage to the whimsical charm of the Silver Age, a quality that is often overlooked in contemporary comics. Following an intense initial storyline where Kara successfully transformed an adversary into both an ally and mentee, it’s now time for some much-needed downtime for our heroes. Enter Lena, who takes on the role of babysitter for Superpets as thier family grows to include four quirky creatures, each endowed with unique superpowers—though it doesn’t take long before they all go missing.

The issue features two guest artists who each illustrate a different duo. First up are Krypto the Superdog and Kandy the Giant Rabbit—Lesla’s pet bunny who takes his rivalry with Supergirl quite seriously. As this little rabbit challenges Krypto, they find themselves embroiled in daring escapades that lead them to unexpected friendships. Ultimately, Krypto proves himself as a true companion to Kandy, encouraging him to set aside thoughts of revenge.

Meanwhile, chaos reigns for Streaky and Tinytano as they encounter some exceptional superpowered kittens. It appears that ordinary kittens have ingested some mysterious substance introduced in last month’s issue and are now soaring through the skies with kryptonian abilities! Their antics test everyone’s patience—while Tinytano aims to prove himself as a hero, Streaky is more concerned about maintaining his snack schedule.

The internal monologues of these animals are comically engaging; Campbell excels at giving each character its own distinct voice despite their lack of verbal communication. The artistic styles vary subtly between segments but both artists shine when illustrating pets in action. Even though this installment may feel more laid-back compared to previous issues, it remains immensely entertaining as we witness delightful chaos unfold—and Campbell concludes with an unexpected cliffhanger that leaves readers eager for more!
