I have a confession to make – I recently finally watched The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
I know, I know, as a self-proclaimed The Hunger Games enthusiast, it’s embarrassing. My apologies!
Pushing aside the humor, I genuinely planned to catch this film upon its release in 2023. However, life had other plans and time slipped away from me. While I had seen snippets here and there,I never dedicated myself to watching the entire film in one sitting—until now. With all the recent casting announcements for the upcoming prequel film flooding in, it was finally time for me to dive into it.
I must say—I was beyond impressed. It truly exceeded my expectations. Let’s delve into my thoughts.

An Outstanding Cast – Notably Rachel Zegler
This movie features a remarkable ensemble cast that truly shines. Peter Dinklage is always a favorite of mine; I’ve admired his work as his days on ‘Game of Thrones’, so that’s no surprise! Viola Davis delivers yet another stellar performance as expected. And tom Blyth’s portrayal as young President Snow was so compelling that I almost felt sympathy for him!
You guessed it—Rachel Zegler also delivered an outstanding performance! She has been on my radar ever since her breakout role in the acclaimed production of ‘West Side story’. It’s clear she is destined for greatness as a rising Latina star! This role suits her perfectly; I’m eager to see more from Lucy gray Baird moving forward.
Apart from Lucy Grey Baird, there was another character who caught my attention just as much—if not more!

p>You might be wondering who he portrayed? Well let me clarify – Josh Andrés Rivera took on the role of Sejanus plinth—a student at the Academy who follows Snow into District 12 after witnessing his tribute perish during the games. Honestly? I found this character incredibly engaging!
While he may not have been central to the plotline , what resonates with me about dystopian narratives is their ability to explore various facets within such societies . This includes showcasing individuals who begin questioning their government , gaining insight , ultimately leading them towards personal revelations . Sejanus embodies this journey perfectly —his attempts at collaboration with rebels culminate tragically when he faces betrayal by Snow resulting in his demise. p>This moment serves as a pivotal turning point within such films where everything seems aligned toward progress . His death acts as a catalyst igniting subsequent events while providing insight into someone awakening amidst Capitol’s oppressive regime . Despite limited screen time , we were able witness profound growth.
