Tokyo (November 3, 2025) – The revival screening of the “HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle-” film, referred to as “HypMovie,” commenced on September 2nd across 66 theaters in Japan. This date marks the anniversary of HypMic and celebrates eight years as the mission’s inception. With this revival, HypMovie has impressively crossed a significant milestone, amassing over 2 billion yen in box office revenue.
hypmovie is recognized as Japan’s inaugural interactive film and made its debut on February 21, 2025, at 85 theaters nationwide. Due to a limited number of interactive screening technologies available, it continued its run in approximately 60 to 80 theaters across Japan. Unlike many films that start with small releases in about ten locations before expanding to over 150 screens after gaining popularity, HypMovie has achieved the remarkable feat of exceeding box office earnings of over 2 billion yen while being shown in fewer than a hundred theaters as its premiere (Source: Kogyo Tsushinsha).
The film’s success can largely be attributed to its unique interactive format—an unprecedented feature within Japanese cinema—that considerably enhances audience engagement during viewings. Each rap battle’s outcome is steadfast by audience votes through an innovative voting system via smartphones. Viewers have five opportunities throughout the movie to cast their votes for each battle’s winner; this results in a total of forty-eight different possible storylines and seven distinct endings.
