<h2>Expert Advice on Vehicle safety</h2>
<p>Julie Howard, a Community Education Specialist with the Shasta county Health and Human Services Agency, emphasized to KRCR that it is crucial to avoid leaving anyone—be it a person or an animal—in a vehicle.She pointed out that simply rolling down windows or seeking shade does little to mitigate the rising temperatures inside.</p>
<p>“Even if itS below <strong>70 degrees</strong>, just stepping away for <strong>10 minutes</strong> can lead to hazardous conditions,” Howard cautioned. “Consider placing a personal item like yoru purse or briefcase next to your child as a reminder of their presence.”</p>

<p>Additionally, she recommended keeping keys and key fobs out of children’s reach so they cannot accidentally enter unlocked vehicles.</p>
<h2>The Risks Associated with Temperature Regulation in Children</h2>
<p>Jane Terry, NHTSA’s director overseeing impaired driving and occupant protection initiatives, noted that deviations from routine by caregivers can substantially increase the risk of heat-related fatalities. She urged everyone to double-check before locking their vehicles.</p>
<p>Terry explained how children’s bodies react differently than adults when it comes to temperature regulation: “Children’s body temperatures can rise much faster than those of adults,” she stated. “This means that if they are left alone in an enclosed space like a car, their internal temperature can escalate rapidly and may become life-threatening.”</p>

<p>“This is something we all need to be vigilant about as no one wants such tragedies affecting our loved ones,” Terry added. “It’s an issue where collective awareness can make all the difference.”</p>
