Community Event Promotes Pet Safety Amid Summer Heat
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — This past Saturday, Las Vegas Councilwoman Victoria Seaman of Ward 2 collaborated with the National Latino Peace Officers Association to organize an event titled “Paws, Pup Cups, adn Booties.” The initiative aimed to raise awareness about protecting pets from the hazards posed by extreme summer heat.
A Day at Kellogg-Zaher Dog Park
The gathering took place at Kellogg-Zaher Dog Park, where pet owners were encouraged to bring their furry friends for a day of fun and education. Antonio Rodriguez, the Western Vice President of the National Latino Peace Officers Association, was present and praised Seaman’s commitment to animal welfare.
Highlighting Animal Welfare Concerns
“Initially, we were planning a back-to-school event,” Rodriguez explained. “Though, as discussions progressed about various issues that Victoria is passionate about, we shifted our focus.” He emphasized that Seaman is a strong advocate for ensuring animals are safe during hot weather conditions.
The Importance of Awareness
Councilwoman Seaman highlighted an important aspect of pet safety: “We have animal control hear measuring pavement temperatures. Many people don’t realize how hot it can get; it’s crucial for them to understand that their pets can burn their paws on hot surfaces without protective booties.” This message resonated with attendees who were eager to learn more about keeping their pets safe in high temperatures.

Participants enjoyed complimentary pup cups while supplies lasted and received protective dog booties designed to shield their pets’ paws from scorching pavement. The event not only provided resources but also fostered community engagement around responsible pet ownership during summer months.
A Successful Collaboration for Pet Safety
Councilwoman Seaman expressed her satisfaction with this partnership and reiterated the meaning of prioritizing pet safety as temperatures rise in Las Vegas. Events like these play a vital role in educating pet owners on how best to care for their animals during challenging weather conditions.
This initiative serves as a reminder that community efforts can make a notable impact on public awareness regarding animal welfare issues—especially when it comes to protecting our beloved companions from seasonal dangers.
The collaboration between local officials and organizations like the National Latino Peace Officers Association exemplifies how communities can come together for meaningful causes while promoting responsible pet ownership practices throughout the year.
