Allegations Against Baltimore Pet Crematorium
The owner of a pet cremation service in the Baltimore area is facing serious allegations of defrauding grieving pet owners by providing them with sand or concrete instead of their beloved pets’ ashes.
The Charges Unfold
Rodney Ward and his spouse, Yalanda, who run Loving Care Pet Funeral and Cremation Services in Catonsville, have been charged with 56 counts related to malicious property damage.
h2>A Heartbreaking Experience for Pet Owners
p>In April, WJZ reported that investigators discovered the remains of 38 different animals stored inside a hearse in West Baltimore. One affected pet owner, juanita Logan, recounted her distressing experience when she entrusted her deceased cat to Loving Care Pet Funerals last October. Within a day, she received a box featuring her cat’s photo along with a cremation ID; however, it contained only sand instead of ashes.
“This feels like losing him all over again,” Logan expressed to WJZ. “I can’t find the words to describe my devastation.” When WJZ attempted to contact Loving Care pet Funerals for comment, there was no response and their website led to an error page.
“I feel like I let him down because they just discarded him,” Logan lamented. “I hope that among all the remains found in that hearse they can locate what’s left so I can finally have his true ashes.”
Nikki Pickens also shared her story with WJZ about being deceived by Loving care after losing her 13-year-old cat named Norbie earlier this year. Instead of receiving Norbie’s ashes back from the crematory service as expected, she too received only sand.
“We are hoping he will come forward and acknowledge what happened so we can find our pets,” Pickens stated.
Pleasure Schoonover experienced similar heartbreak when she learned that what was returned as the ashes of her late 17-year-old cat Garfield were not actually ashes at all but rather something resembling concrete mixed with wires.
A Community Response
In light of thes troubling events surrounding Loving Care Pet Funeral and Cremation Services, another local establishment has stepped up to offer assistance. Charm City Pet Crematory announced it would provide complimentary cremation services for those who believe they were victims of this alleged scam.
Zoey Robinson-Budreski from Charm City stated that she collaborated with the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) along with animal control authorities to cremate recovered pets on behalf of families affected by this situation. “I couldn’t just stand by without helping,” Robinson-budreski remarked. “It’s heartbreaking because he betrayed many people’s trust.”
