the Best Friends Animal Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers associated with buying dogs from pet stores.
Their perspective:
“Dogs and cats sourced from commercial breeding facilities often suffer from behavioral issues due to lack of socialization and may also face health problems,” stated Katie Bright with Best Friends Animal Society.
Certain states have enacted laws that only allow pet stores to sell animals obtained from shelters or rescue organizations.
A significant number of pets born in commercial breeding operations end up in government-funded animal shelters across the country.
This has led advocates to encourage potential pet owners to consider adopting animals from shelters as a means of saving lives while providing loving homes.
