A recent survey involving 2,000 American adults who own dogs revealed that an extraordinary 87% consider their dog too be their best friend. Furthermore, a staggering 97% view their pet as an integral member of the family.
Interestingly, three-quarters of respondents reported having conversations with their pets.Among these interactions, 62% admitted to using a specific “dog voice” while communicating.
Unique Ways Owners Celebrate Their Dogs
A significant number of dog owners engage in unique practices to celebrate this bond: 40% have organized birthday parties for their pets; 45% maintain social media profiles dedicated to them; and about 60% have even conducted video calls with them while away from home.
The Perception of Non-Dog Owners
This study commissioned by Minties FreshBites dental treats indicated that while around 80% acknowledge these behaviors might seem unusual to non-pet owners,thay find nothing strange about the closeness they share with their dogs.
Paw-sitive Experiences Shared by Dog Owners
The research also uncovered some fun facts: half of all respondents dress up their dogs in outfits—ranging from superhero costumes (13%) to formal wear like tuxedos (10%). Additionally, many indulge in homemade meals for them (28%), treat them to spa days (21%), or even include them in wedding photos (9%).
The Challenges Faced by Pet Lovers
This strong affection can sometimes come with challenges; notably bad breath is cited as a common issue among pet lovers. The study found that an overwhelming 81% feel hesitant about getting too close due to this problem.
