This legislation is primarily ⁢perceived as affecting consumers who purchase gummies and ‍beverages; however, it also extends its reach to pets and their caregivers.

The Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Management Board now regulates hemp products containing Delta-8 or CBD,which can only be sold by licensed‍ vendors.

Understanding the New Regulations

The law defines “consumable hemp products” as items intended for human or animal consumption ‌that⁣ contain‌ any part of the hemp⁢ plant. This includes⁣ products infused with‌ cannabinoids such as CBD.

Impact on Pet Stores and‍ Owners

Due to these regulatory changes, pet retailers are no longer permitted to⁣ stock items commonly used to alleviate⁢ joint‍ pain and ‍other health issues in ‌beloved pets. These products ‌have ⁤been widely utilized⁤ by pet owners seeking‍ relief for their animals suffering from anxiety or discomfort through calming ⁣treats or tinctures.Attorney ⁢Whitt Steineker highlighted this concern in an article for The ‍national⁢ Law Review.

Steineker further noted ⁢that pet stores will not qualify for the special‌ licensing required under this new ⁤law ⁢to sell such items. ⁢Consequently, ⁢if pet owners ⁤are found possessing calming gummies after these regulations ⁢have come⁢ into effect, they could face felony charges.

Potential Consequences

The ramifications include possible incarceration, ⁤according to Steineker’s warnings. Additionally, ‌offenders may incur fines ⁢reaching‌ up to $15,000.
