A Glimpse into Maaya Sakamoto’s Career
Nurtured in Tokyo’s vibrant arts scene since childhood—she began acting at just eight years old—Sakamoto made her musical debut in 1996 with her single “Yakusoku wa Iranai.” Her album released in 2011 titled You Can’t Glean Me achieved remarkable success by topping Oricon charts. Following that milestone she collaborated extensively with numerous artists across genres.As releasing her album Singer-Songwriter in 2013 she has also ventured into composing songs for other musicians.
The year 2019 saw her release thirtieth single titled “Uchuu no Kioku,” produced by renowned artist Ringo Sheena alongside her tenth studio album Kyou Dake no Ongaku. Along with these achievements she celebrated another milestone when she launched Single Series+ Achikochi along with digital single “Yakudo,” which also topped Oricon charts during its release year (2020).
Sakamoto’s radio show “Nutrition M,” which has been running successfully for two decades reached its landmark thousandth episode in July 2021 marking over twenty years on air! In May of that same year she introduced double tie-up singles named “Sumire / Kotoba ni Dekinai,” featuring compositions arranged by Shigeru Kishida.
Culminating three decades within entertainment industry milestones led up to October’s release celebrating thirty years since entering artistry thru M30~Your Handiest~ .To date she’s amassed an impressive discography comprising thirty-six singles alongside eleven full-length albums!
Apart from crafting original pieces herself she’s lent lyrical contributions towards works performed by others including Kinki Kids’ hit track ‘Hikari no Kehai,’ Mamoru Miyano’s ‘Toumei,’ Walküre’s ‘Kaze wa yokoku Naku Fuku’ while publishing lyric collections such as Shishu under Kadokawa Publishing House too!
Sakamoto received accolades like winning Kazuo Kikuta Theater Award recognizing outstanding performances notably portraying Jerusha within musical Daddy-Long-Legs where currently reprising role after five-year hiatus at Hibiya Theater Crea until December twelfth!
