Ongoing Search for Missing Pets After‌ Devastating Fire in Tai Po

In the aftermath of a tragic ⁤fire in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district, 84 pets are still unaccounted for following an incident⁤ that‍ resulted in the loss of 160 ⁣lives. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has ‍urged ‍local authorities to provide food, water, and traps within the devastated area to assist in locating any surviving animals.

Hope Amidst tragedy

Marsha Chun, head‌ of‍ SPCA’s inspectorate, stated ‌on tuesday⁣ that while placing resources within the charred remains of Wang Fuk Court may not guarantee finding any pets alive, it could‌ still offer “a glimmer of hope” to their owners.

Possibility of Survival

Chun explained during a radio ‌interview that last Thursday, the police’s Disaster Victim Identification Unit (DVIU) conducted searches for animals and discovered several remains. However, she emphasized that there is still a chance some pets might have escaped during rescue efforts.

A Call for assistance

“We are hopeful that officials can help‌ us place⁤ food and water along with traps in various buildings so we can find these pets alive,” Chun remarked. She noted instances⁤ where some animals were located by ⁤officers in nearby residences rather than their original⁣ homes, indicating they may have fled and survived ‍independently.

Reaching Out⁣ to Pet Owners

The SPCA has contacted all owners of the missing 84 pets; reactions have varied from devastation to calm acceptance among them. Chun recounted one particular case where an ⁣owner reached out hours later expressing his desire to return to ‍the site onc access was granted to⁢ recover his dog’s remains.
