Supporting pets in Need: Lucas County’s Monthly Pet Food Pantry
Financial hardships can significantly impact not only families but also their beloved pets. To address this issue, Lucas County Canine Care and Control has initiated a monthly pet food pantry, relying on the generosity of community contributions.
A Successful Launch in Toledo
On a sunny Sunday morning in Toledo, Ohio, around one hundred individuals left wiht complimentary supplies of pet food for their furry companions.
The inaugural pet food pantry was organized by Lucas County Canine Care and Control, marking a significant step towards supporting local pet owners.
Eligibility and offerings
participants who qualify for SNAP benefits were able to receive up to 15 pounds of dog food,with cat food also being made available during the event.
This initiative followed LC4’s outreach efforts to gather donations specifically aimed at providing dog and cat food. the overwhelming response from the community enabled them to successfully launch this vital service.
A community Effort
“Being able to assist families in keeping their furry friends at home is an invaluable part of our mission,” stated Cassie Bloomfield, Community Outreach Coordinator for LC4. “The only way we can make this pantry possible is through donations. We are incredibly grateful for everyone’s kindness and willingness to help those in need.”
Ongoing Support Needed
LC4 continues to welcome donations of both dry dog and cat food and also canned cat food to ensure they have enough supplies for future pantries. Additionally, monetary contributions are accepted, along with items listed on their wish list, which details necessary supplies for the shelter.

The shelter is located at 1301 Monroe Avenue near the intersection with 14th Street. Pet pantries are typically held on the third Sunday of each month from 10 a.m. until noon. For more facts or registration details, click here.
