Sofia Coppola Set to Shine at MoMA: A Celebration of Cinematic Brilliance in 2025!

The Museum of⁤ Contemporary ⁤Art is set to ⁤pay tribute to Sofia ‍Coppola during its 2025 Film Gala. This prestigious event,⁤ sponsored by Chanel, will take place on November 12 in New York City.

The annual Film Gala at⁣ MoMA ⁣celebrates the⁢ evolution and preservation of the museum’s film collection,which boasts ⁤over ‌30,000 films and approximately 1.5 million film stills. The gala also features a variety⁢ of screenings, premieres, ⁣festivals, and retrospectives that ‍honour filmmakers—actors, writers, and directors—who have significantly impacted the cinematic landscape.

Coppola is undoubtedly ​deserving of this recognition; she began her acting career early in life and has since⁣ written and directed nine feature films. ‌Five⁤ of her works are part of MoMA’s collection: “The virgin​ Suicides” (1999), ‍“Lost in Translation” (2003), “Marie Antoinette” (2006), “Somewhere” (2010), and “The Bling Ring” (2013). Her⁣ screenplay‌ for “Lost in Translation”⁢ earned her an Academy award‍ for Best Original Screenplay while⁢ also‍ garnering nominations for Best Director and Best Picture.

Rajendra roy, MoMA’s Celeste Bartos Chief‍ Curator of Film, expressed his ​thoughts in a statement‍ released Monday: “Building lasting relationships with ⁣artists is one of the most significant privileges—and responsibilities—for an institution like MoMA. sofia‌ Coppola has ⁣been part of our‌ artistic⁢ community since she emerged ‍as ‌a celebrated director over two decades ago. We honored ⁢her back in 2004 as part of our ⁣’Work in Progress’ series;⁣ it brings us great ‍joy to welcome her back now ‍as a leading figure in⁣ cinema.”

In conjunction with the ⁢Film ⁢Gala ⁣festivities, MoMA will showcase all nine feature films by Coppola along with⁤ her​ short film from 1998 titled “Lick The Star.” This special series named “Sofia Coppola: ‌A Tribute” ⁤will be held at the museum’s Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters⁣ from october 30 through November‌ 16.
