Rhian Boxall’s plans to pet-sit for her brother took an unexpected turn when she found herself welcoming a whopping litter of fourteen puppies!
While looking after her brother’s pregnant Labrador retriever named Tilly during his trip away from home, Rhian was aware that the dog was expecting. However, she never anticipated that Tilly would give birth while under her care. This surprising event was reported by both the BBC and ITV News.
Interestingly enough, when Rhian agreed to look after Tilly several months prior to this incident—before it became clear that the dog was pregnant—she had no idea what lay ahead. A subsequent ultrasound revealed that Tilly was carrying approximately seven puppies and expected to deliver around September 3rd according to reports.
Despite being informed about the pregnancy later on and reassured by her brother that there would be no deliveries during his absence,Rhian faced an astonishing surprise as Tilly gave birth one week earlier than predicted wiht a total of fourteen pups instead of just six or eight as initially thought.
“We thought we were done at least five times considering we expected only five or six,” Boxall shared with ITV News about how overwhelming it felt at times as they lost count amidst all the excitement!
Alongside her husband Steve and their two children Nia (7) and William (10), Boxall experienced an emotional rollercoaster over fifteen hours as they welcomed each puppy into the world.
Although two of the puppies did not survive their first days in life; twelve healthy pups received colorful collars for easy identification among them.

According To ITV News: the family is now considering adopting one among these adorable little ones as they played such pivotal roles welcoming them into existence!
