Ayanna Puryear, a nurse practitioner by profession, found ‍herself at a dog grooming appointment with her seven-year-old Shih Tzu-Poodle mix named Bentley when an enlightening conversation with the groomer sparked an innovative⁣ idea.

This fall in Uptown Charlotte marks the launch of Clip, an inclusive grooming studio designed specifically⁣ for independent pet groomers.

Puryear is currently ‌transforming an 810-square-foot space at 810 East 7th Street, Suite 111 to⁢ accommodate multiple groomers and various pets including dogs⁣ and cats.

The business model of Clip is inspired by the popular salon suite concept where stylists pay a regular fee for access to ⁢managed spaces along with necessary ‌tools and products to serve their clients—without bearing the full burden of running a customary storefront. similarly, Clip aims to provide this supportive environment for‍ pet groomers.

Puryear noted that many groomers expressed frustration over their ⁣limited ‍options outside commercial ⁤studios; they often resorted to working from home or using mobile setups.

Puryear is no stranger‍ to entrepreneurial ventures; alongside her nursing career, she has previously engaged in real‌ estate‍ flipping as a side hustle.⁢ Recognizing the‌ demand for dedicated pet grooming spaces led her to embark ⁢on this new journey.

Puryear conducted extensive discussions with local groomers and stylists about their experiences and challenges within the industry: some operated from home while others ‌traveled directly to clients or owned ⁣their own facilities; however nearly all highlighted common pain points such as high overhead costs and limited access to professional networks within the broader pet-grooming ⁣community.

The goal behind her⁤ venture is clear: she aims for Clip not only to alleviate these burdens but also empower new entrepreneurs entering this field while helping established professionals reduce operational expenses.
