firefighters Save Pets from Blaze in South Bend Home
SOUTH BEND, IN (WSBT) — In a dramatic rescue operation early this morning, firefighters in South Bend successfully saved several pets from a house fire on Portage Avenue.
Early Morning Alarm
The incident unfolded shortly before 7 a.m.when the South Bend Medic two unit noticed smoke and flames emanating from a residence located in the 1200 block of Portage Avenue.
Rapid Response to Fire Emergency
Truck Seven quickly joined the response team as they arrived on-site to combat the blaze that originated on the first floor and rapidly spread to the second level of the home.
The firefighters managed to bring the fire under control within approximately twenty minutes, preventing further damage and potential injuries.
No Occupants Present During Incident
Lucky for all involved, there were no residents inside at the time of the fire. However,firefighters faced an urgent task as they worked to rescue two cats and several guinea pigs trapped within. Tragically, one cat did not survive despite their efforts.
Aiding Animal Rescue Efforts
The South bend Animal Resource Center was contacted promptly to assist with caring for the rescued animals following their harrowing experience.
Cause of Fire Under Examination
The cause of this unfortunate incident is currently being investigated by local authorities as they work to determine what led to this dangerous situation.
