Massive Success in Florida’s Pet Adoption Event
In a remarkable initiative, a recent pet adoption event in Florida successfully found homes for over 2,000 animals within just three days.
The MEGA Pet Adoption Tournament
The Petco love MEGA Pet Adoption Tournament united more then 50 animal shelters and rescue organizations from across the state.
According to organizers, a total of 2,093 dogs and cats were adopted during this statewide effort.
Local Impact: Jacksonville Fairgrounds
The Jacksonville Humane Society played host to a significant regional event at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds on June 28 and 29, where an remarkable 510 pets found new families that weekend alone.
This initiative aimed not only to save lives but also to alleviate the burden on overcrowded shelters throughout Florida.
A Call for Change in Animal Welfare
Recent statistics reveal that Florida ranks poorly at 46th nationwide when it comes to saving shelter animals. Actually, over 37,000 animals faced euthanasia across the state in just one year (2024).

Lawrence Nicolas, CEO of the Jacksonville Humane Society, emphasized that this event was crucial as manny shelters were overwhelmed and needed assistance. “This is further evidence that our community rallies around its animals,” he remarked.

This successful event was made possible thru support from Petco Love and organized by Florida Leaders in Lifesaving—a program spearheaded by the Jacksonville Humane Society.
