On Saturday, June 7, 2025, PAWS of Coronado will eliminate all adoption fees for its available pets in collaboration with CalAnimals and the ASPCA as part of the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day.
Embrace Shelter Animals
Be Shelter pawsitive. While there are various avenues to find pets, choosing to adopt from local shelters not only provides a loving home to animals in need but also supports the vital efforts of these organizations. The goal is to secure loving homes for approximately 5,000 pets across California. With over 150 animal shelters participating, this event presents a splendid prospect to find your perfect companion!
The Benefits of Adopting from PAWS
PAWS of Coronado ensures that all animals are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped prior to adoption. This means that families and individuals who adopt from PAWS receive a pet that has already undergone essential medical care tailored for their species.

A Broader Initiative: San Diego Humane Society Joins in
The San Diego Humane Society will also take part in the second annual california Adopt-a-pet Day on June 7. On this day, they will waive adoption fees for all animals under their care—providing countless pets with an opportunity to find loving homes.
“Waiving adoption fees can transform hundreds of lives—both those of the animals and their future owners,” stated Dr. Gary Weitzman, President and CEO of San Diego Humane Society. “We are thrilled to partner with shelters throughout California to highlight pet adoption and help more animals find families.”
A Statewide Movement Towards Adoption Awareness
The California Adopt-a-Pet Day is a statewide campaign organized by CalAnimals alongside SF SPCA and ASPCA aimed at reducing shelter overcrowding while promoting awareness about pet adoptions. Last year’s event led to over 2,300 successful adoptions statewide; notably, the san Diego Humane Society found homes for 164 pets in just one day! This year they aim even higher as they seek families for nearly 800 adoptable pets currently in their care.
