A family in hempfield faced displacement adn the heartbreaking loss of their pets when a fire erupted in their mobile home early Monday morning.
The tenants were not present at the time the flames were reported shortly after 8 a.m.,but according to Don Thoma, assistant chief of the Hempfield Fire Department, several cats perished inside.
Fortunately, there were no injuries among first responders, Thoma confirmed.
A team of firefighters who entered the residence at the Hempfield Highlands trailer park managed to quickly extinguish the flames while other crew members conducted searches for any potential occupants.
“For a holiday morning, everyone responded remarkably fast,” Thoma remarked about the various fire departments that arrived. “I’m truly relieved that no one was inside.”
“It’s likely fortunate that all windows were shut.In such cases, fires can deplete oxygen and extinguish themselves,” he added.
The level of danger was assessed as moderate to severe by Thoma.
“There was significant smoke damage along with considerable heat damage,” he noted.
The mobile home is currently deemed uninhabitable due to extensive damage from the incident.
An investigation into what caused this blaze is underway by an appointed police fire marshal.
The property is owned by operators of the trailer park; however, they could not be reached for comments on Monday afternoon.
