New Memorial for beloved Pets Under Construction at Greenfield Lake Park

WILMINGTON, ⁣NC (WWAY) — A heartfelt‍ memorial is⁣ being established at Greenfield Lake Park to pay ‍tribute to pets that have passed away.

A Collaborative Effort for a noble Cause

This initiative⁢ is a partnership between Susan Chesson, the founder of The Plentiful Paw Mission, and Andrew ⁣Fairfull, a 14-year-old Eagle Scout candidate. Chesson’s nonprofit institution aids animal shelters and rescue groups by providing essential supplies and resources. Now, she ‌aims to‌ create a space where pet owners can ‍mourn and remember their beloved companions.

A Tribute to All Animals in the Community

“Our goal was ⁢to‍ create something that honors not just individual pets but all animals in ⁢our wonderful community,” ⁢chesson expressed.

Inspired by ⁤the Rainbow Bridge

The memorial draws inspiration⁤ from⁢ the⁢ original rainbow Bridge located at Lake Trap, which was unfortunately destroyed during Hurricane ⁣Helene. The project has received approval from⁢ Wilmington’s ‍Parks and Recreation Department and ‍is⁣ backed by local sponsors such as home Depot.

A serene⁢ Setting for Reflection

“Greenfield Lake holds special significance for many ⁣of us; it truly offers an unmatched environment. I⁤ believe this will be an ideal place for individuals seeking peace after ‍losing their pets,” Chesson added.

Eagle Scout project ⁣with Heart

Fairfull chose⁤ this⁣ project as part of his Eagle Scout service ⁣requirement.Upon contacting ⁣the city about⁢ potential projects, ⁤he discovered Chesson’s ongoing efforts.

“I decided to take ⁣on this project because I wanted ⁤to‌ do something meaningful for animals while giving back to my⁢ community,” Fairfull shared. “When I reached ⁣out to Parks and Recreation, they informed⁢ me about Susan’s initiative, which made perfect sense⁣ since I wouldn’t have to start from scratch.”

The Power of collaboration

Chesson noted that their collaboration ‌has made this project more impactful than either could have imagined. “He’s truly an remarkable young man; achieving yoru Eagle‍ scout rank is no small feat,” she remarked. ⁣“We combined our ideas into one cohesive proposal—and here we are⁣ today! We’re both thrilled to ‌present it‍ to our community after working diligently on it.”

An Open Invitation for Remembrance

Once ‍completed,⁤ the Rainbow Bridge will be accessible‌ to everyone without any fees or reservations required for tributes or visits.

“Everyone is welcome here—please feel free to‌ leave‍ a ‍token in memory of your pet,” she encouraged. “Whether it’s a collar or leash or simply sitting quietly with your thoughts.”

Ceremony Details: Honoring Service Animals Too!

The bridge is anticipated to be finished ‍by Friday ⁤morning⁤ with a dedication ceremony scheduled at‍ 9:30 AM. This event ⁢will also include benches dedicated‌ not ⁢only ‌in memory of ⁤cherished pets but also honoring service⁤ animals lost during Hurricane Helene.
